let’s talk about sports here for a second.

i am deeply committed to NCAA basketball, as some of y’all might know, and think that the players, coaches, the whole system in general, while not without flaws, are all conducive to a more entertaining, passionate game for the spectator than, say… the NBA. i haven’t watched or cared about the NBA since before michael jordan retired the first time. recently, though, i spent a lot of time reading up on players i remember caring about deeply, both IRL and in the context of NBA Hangtime for Super Nintendo, which i was fucking killer at, and recalled/learned these facts:

Space Jam: it really existed
the totally brutal murder of michael jordan’s father and how emotional everyone was about it
charles barkley was pretty lovable even back then
shaq. Kazaam also existed. “My game’s like the Pythagorean Theorem. It ain’t got no answer.” i could probably talk about shaq forever.
karl malone had three illegitimate children, by two different women; two of whom he had a relationship with, and the other one he decided not to. karl malone is also a very intense republican, i mean, i’m just saying. this guy was a source of inspiration to me in my sports videogaming days.
michael jordan’s son jeffrey plays for the fighting illini’s basketball team

i guess NBA basketball is pretty exciting these days, because of players like lebron james and kobe bryant. even shaq is still around. but i will still refuse to watch it. WHO KNOWS WHY. i have convinced myself that it is essentially watching some giants pick up a thing smaller than their hands and putting it inside of another thing that is smaller than their hands… just kind of boring.
